The opening matches of Group A have concluded with G2, OG, MOUZ, and HEROIC picking up wins.
The first round of best-of-ones has played out at IEM Dallas and all the teams are now waiting for another match on the first day of play.
G2 comfortably defeated Nouns with a 16-5 win on Inferno, while OG and FURIA had a much closer game on the same map. The European combine is fielding Iulian "regali" Harjău as a stand-in for Abdul "degster" Gasanov, but nevertheless won their opening matchup against the Brazilians to secure their place in the Group A upper bracket semi-final.
FURIA's woes continue in Dallas
In the second set of opening matches there was a bout between fnatic and MOUZ, with the former using Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg in place of Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson. Nuke was the battleground and fnatic got off to a strong start, but they soon ran out of steam, dropping the map with a 9-16 scoreline. Dorian "xertioN" Berman had a fantastic game and put up 26 kills and a 1.61 rating in his team's victory.
Last on the schedule was the David vs. Goliath battle between HEROIC and 9z, but the Danes didn't succumb to the underdogs. They showed their dominance with an 11-4 CT-sided half before getting the job done 16-9 to set up a Group A upper bracket semi-final bout against MOUZ later in the day.
Next up are the Group B openers, where ENCE are pitted against Complexity, while FaZe will meet Evil Geniuses on the B stream. Rounding out the best-of-one phase of the tournament will be Liquid vs. Astralis and Cloud9 vs. Grayhound.
After the Group B openers, the Group A upper bracket semi-finals and the lower bracket's first round will start at 23:00 , with MOUZ vs. HEROIC and fnatic vs. 9z scheduled at 02:30 .
